My Rights as an American

Our county’s local ellections were this week. One of the really big ticket items was whether or not to allow alchohol sales in Reno, a small town just a few miles down the road. We’re in a dry county, but alchohol sales are permited in restaraunts with a permit and in towns created for the sole purpose of setting up a liquor store. However, you can’t open a store in an established town, nor can you buy alchohol in convenience stores, grocery stores, etc

This vote was to allow (or not) a liquor store to open in an established town.

808873_figures_pollThe “liberals” are in an uproar that anyone would try to keep a business owner from opening a liquor store, stating it’s a free country, people should be allowed to purchase alchoholic beverages if they want to, etc…

I find myself half sick and half laughing at the whole thing.

The liberals want to ban gun ownership rights, and the conservatives want to ban the alcohol sales. They both use the same argument:

Guns (or Alchohol) are dangerous and could potentially cause death.

Do they see how they’re both trying to impose the same restrictions on the freedoms of the other? The exact same thing, people!!! I’m an American. I have the right to bear arms and the right to purchase alcoholic beverages.

With liberty comes comes responsibility. I’m the one who decides whether or not to purchase these items, and how to use them. If I wish to remain free (stay out of prison) I will use these items responsibly.

I’m not a drinker. That is, I’ve never been drunk. I believe it is morally wrong to drink to the point of drunkenness or impaired thinking. However, I can enjoy a glass of wine from time to time.

I also believe murder is wrong, whether caused by gunshot, drunk driving, or strangling (does that mean we should ban rope, ties, etc?) but I don’t believe that guns or alcohol are evil. What makes them dangerous is the person using them.

For the record, I hate politics.

True…I don’t think it was as much liberals wanting it, more like business owners and big corporations that will benefit from it. I think you could also throw in lazy people who can’t drive two miles outside of town. lol

I think people that are for this are all across the political spectrum because there’s money to be made. But I can also see their liberal allies making this circular argument.

Well, it passed it Paris but not in Reno (thank God!)

lol that’s why I put “liberals” in quotes. The fuss I’m hearing is from all sorts of people, but they use the “oh, it’ll never pass, cause Paris is so full of stiff conservatives.” So, while some of us conservatives don’t mind it, for the most part, the blame for Paris being dry so long has fallen on conservatives. lol

I wonder how long before we start seeing it in stores?

They said it’ll be a matter of days, I’m sure big stores like Wal-mart and Kroger already have it waiting to go. I’m sure the gas stations will take a couple of months.

Yeah, I think some people forget that there are different types of conservatives hehe
