Selling on eBay – Installment #3

If you’ve ever purchased items on eBay you have probably seen a number of different listing styles. Unless you know some HTML you’ll probably want to stick with eBay’s Rich Text Editor. Wit this cool tool available there is absolutely no reason to have a boring listing consisting of all black Times New Roman text in size 12. No reason at all!

I like to start with a bold font for the header. A size 18 or larger is good, and I like to center it. The name of the item should be a bold, eye catching color.

You should always list everything included in your auction. If you have a boxed/packaged product that is missing an item, even if it’s just a battery or manual, be sure to put that in your description. If you are listing clothing be sure to specify if there are any small tears, holes, or stains, even if you think they are hardly noticeable. If you list an item inaccurately you will get bad feedback. I normally use a small, red font for disclaimers. I have researched a lot of listings and for the most part red is used to draw attention to a detail the buyer needs to know before purchasing, such as requirements for software, small spot on the pocket of the shirt, scratch on the side of the phone, etc.

Here is a very simple listing:

You’re bidding on a full, Learning Edition, of

Microsoft’s VisualBasic 6.0
Includes: Learn Visual Basic Now CD-ROM tutorial!

All books, CD’s, and pamphlets included!

This software was used by my husband when he was in college, but it’s still in very good condition. It would make a wonderful gift for your aspiring programmer!

Requires Windows 95 or later, or Windows NT 4.0 or later.

Coming right up: More on listing for success!
