2 Facebook Like Buttons in One Tool – Tutorial

No, this isn’t a plugin. In fact, it’s a little complicated to add, but I think you’ll find it worth your while! Having one place that really stands out, for people to like your page, like the post, and comment on the ‘like’ is pretty darn cool!

Now, I have to admit, I didn’t find this on my own. No, a wonderful client found it on this parenting site, and wondered if we could put the same on her site. I couldn’t find the plugin for the life of me, so I emailed the site owner, who graciously provided the link for the tutorial she’d used to put this on her blogger blog. No wonder I couldn’t find a WordPress plugin!

So, a big thanks to bloggerplugins.org for the starter!

First of all, the original code WILL NOT work if placed directly in your WordPress theme template, so don’t even try that. haha It’ll be all messy and you’ll get frustrated like I did. Second, this will take several steps to complete…

1. Go to bloggerplugins.org and scroll down in the post until you can enter your desired width and the url for your FB page. Enter these values.

2. Copy the CSS from the top code box and place in your style.css file in your theme editor (Appearance/Editor in your WP Dashboard) and save.

3. If you’re using Genesis, Thesis, or another Hooks based framework, skip to the NOTE in step 4. Otherwise, copy the code from the second box on bloggerplugins.com, and insert in your single.php file, just below the post content div, or at the end of it, depending on how your theme is built.

Now for the changes needed to make this work on WordPress…

4. Replace this code:

With this:

NOTE: If you’re using Genesis, Thesis, or another framework with hooks, put the following code in the ‘after content’ hook for posts and pages:

That’s it! Save everything, then view your posts to make sure the box looks like the one below, and that the links go to the correct places!

If you’ve enjoyed this tutorial, and like the box, please share it!

  1. I might need you to hold my hand on this one. It looks gorgeous but my checkbook seems easier. :)
