Tweet Old Posts WordPress Plugin

This past week has been very interesting for my blog. Since installing this old plugin I’ve seen some visits to some of my older posts, as well as some retweets of these posts on Twitter. I can’t take the credit for discovering this fabulous plugin, since I read about it in a forum, but I can tell you about it! :-)

The Tweet Old Posts plugin for WordPress is very customizable. You can exclude categories, set a limit for how far back the plugin can grab posts, and how often it picks a post. The randomized selection of posts to promote has really impressed me, and I like the button to manually publish a random post when I want to, outside of the schedule.

This plugin has really taken the work out of going back in and finding posts to promote and has helped to highlight posts I may not have thought to pull out!

I keep a WORD document on my desktop where I record the full track back URL and the shortened URL so that I can manually repost older posts from time to time.

I like the sound of this plugin – think I’ll give it a try!

    Thanks!

Funnily enough this is something I’ve been doing manually for some time. We all have some great posts from our early days that were just never read! Almost makes me wish I was on WordPress….almost! :)

I thought of you as I was writing about this plugin. I knew you were one of those who manually pulls out old stuff and I thought “Mike would love this plugin…. if he was on WP.” hehe

That’s one way of doing it, Don! I hadn’t thought of just keeping a document. That sure would make things easier. Do you list the posts chronologically, or by topic?

    Hope you enjoy the plugin!

I like the sound of this, so I’ll give it a test drive. Makes things a little easier, which is always a welcome benefit.

Shame, but there is some database config problems. Totally shut down my site but fortunately I knew how t get it up and running by deleting the plugin vbia FTP. It would have fitted in nicely with my Deja Vu And More series.

Oh – and I have just discovered the plugin has tweeted about a year’s worth of posts which will make me very popular!

I loved the sound of this and tried it yesterday – ended up in Twitter jail because like Kevin, it tweeted like crazy. It’s quite possible that it’s operator error but now I’m scared to try it again. I had a couple of people say they unfollowed me because I was spamming.

Weird! I set mine to only post twice every 24 hours so I don’t look
spammy… Maybe that is the key?

      • Mandy Walker says:

I thought I’d set mine to post once every 12 hours with the random hours set at four. There doesn’t seem to be a way to test it to see if it’s working. Any chance you could post a screen shot of your settings so I can crib???

I added an update in the comments. The plugin has stopped working for me. I haven’t updated anything else that would affect it, so I’m guessing Twitter is at it again with their API and changing stuff around to make life harder. lol I’ll let ya know when I discover a remedy!

Update: This plugin was working GREAT for a few days, but has since stopped, and requires me to manually change a setting or two, then push the post button in order for it to tweet. It’s driving me insane. I think it has something to do with Twitter changing API stuff. I’m holding out for an update to the plugin…
