It seems a little odd to do a week in review post mid-week, but the truth is, it’s been a little more than a week since my vacation started, and it did end on Tuesday. So, here we go!
On Monday morning my Lil Man and I met @MommaDJane in Sulphur Springs, Texas and headed east in the 2010 Chevy Traverse. The trip to eastern Kentucky was smooth and uneventful. We kept the kids entertained with the on-board DVD player and headsets while we listened to music via the satellite radio. Ah! We got in really late Monday night and crashed.
Tuesday we hung around at my folks, let the kids pick squash, cukes, and carrots from the garden and wild blackberries from along the driveway and pet a chicken, visited with my siblings, then went to surprise the kids at a ministry I used to volunteer with.
Wednesday was relaxing. Another day to just chill. In the evening Dwan and I left the kids with my dad and headed up to dad’s office for a couple hours of peace and quiet so we could knock out a little work.
Thursday morning we packed up our kiddos and headed to Knoxville to meet Dwan’s aunt and pick up Dwan’s middle daughter who’d been staying with her aunt a few weeks. We then headed to Gatlinburg to enjoy the Rippley’s Aquarium and a short walk around town. The kiddos were wore out so we didn’t stay too long. On the way out of town we made up our minds to stay the night with Dwan’s aunt, then come back to the Gatlinburg area the next day and stay Friday night at Wilderness at the Smokies resort and water park.
Friday/Saturday. Waterpark. All. Day. Long. This two day getaway was probably the closest thing I’ve had to a real vacation in a very long time. I left my computer at my folks. My kiddo and I spent time just playing, hanging out with friends, and relaxing. Normally when we go on vacation it’s to see family, and while I love that, I also enjoy having some time where we can just do whatever we want. We headed back to my folk’s place Saturday evening and just relaxed when we got in.
Sunday we went to see Cumberland Falls. My family went as well and we enjoyed some light hiking and took lots of pictures. This place is pretty special to me since my husband and I had our first date at Cumberland falls and three years later we were married on one of the overlooks. It’s always fun to go back! Sunday night we all made s’mores around a campfire at mom and dad’s and the kids chased fireflies.
On Monday we did laundry, packed, and relaxed. The kids played outside and I spent some time visiting with my mom while Dwan caught up on a little work. Then on Tuesday morning, bright and early we set off to come home… in the rain.
Overall, it was a very nice trip! I’m still recovering from being on the road so much, but I’m refreshed after a nice break from work. We all had such a wonderful time and I’m really glad we went!
So, now I’m back and catching up on emails, posts, and weekly projects. I’ll be back to posting soon, I promise!
Posts to watch for include a review of the Chevy Traverse, a post on vacations for those who work from home, a couple WordPress related posts, and more!
Have you been on a vacation recently? Where did you go?

We had a great time too. Next time we should plan to go I'll take off work! I know Noah is missing Gabe already and Gabby has even asked about your family. Tapanga can't wait to get back on Facebook and look up Sarah.
Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation Erica. I have just returned from my vacation as well. Plenty of catching up to do since I too was offline for a week. It was refreshing!
I've been looking at pictures on your site and it looks like you all had a good time too! We were home for a week, then took off to San Antonio to Sea World over the weekend. It was FABULOUS and of course I took tons more pictures… hehe
Thanks Erica. I'm still going through my photos. SeaWorld is always a fun place to go. We have one here in California as well. I bet your little guy had a great time there. Looking forward to seeing more photos from your trips.
