I completely understand that, Patty! And, there's absolutely nothing
wrong with doing it that way. These instructions are for upgrading when
people have let their site maintanance lapse so long they can't use the
auto-upgrades. You should be fine so long as you continue upgrading as
the upgrades are released.

Good article Erica. I have to admit that I take the easy way out and use Simple Scripts which is part of my hosting plan with BlueHost. With the click of a button I can upgrade or even downgrade my version of WordPress. I prefer to spend my time taking photos and blogging them than dealing with all the coding issues.

Upgrading can be a PITA. For some reason on my create new post module both the visiual and html tabs contain nothing but html whereas the visual tab is supposed to show stuff in wysiswyg mode. Turned off plugins, reloaded WP – no change.
