So often we read a blog and feel we know the author. We connect with what they write, and we form an idea of what they must be like in person. While a blogger’s writing can be a good insight to their life, I do believe, especially in the case of the niche blogger, that there are many other things that make up who the author is.
One of the reasons I enjoy Mike’s Life so much is that he talks about what he’s doing. Diving, cooking, going out for a drive… All of these things make me feel like I know him a little better.
Being a geeky blogger myself, always talking about WordPress, blogging, and social media I thought maybe it was time a share a little about what I do when I’m not blogging.
A few less techie things that I enjoy:
Playing guitar/piano, singing, teaching sign language, cooking, baking, decorating cakes, gardening, landscaping, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, photography, sewing, paper craft, scrapbooking, drawing, painting… Just to name a few.
In a nutshell, artsy outdoors person.
And no, I don’t do all of these things on a weekly or even monthly basis. I’m way too busy. But, when I have time, these are the things that I love to do!

Erica…. I loved learning these things about you! I took sign language classes in JR high & I wish I would have continued. I loved it…and was good. Oh, well.
Happy Easter my friend!
Lol I took classes in high school. I've been told I'm very good, but I don't feel like I know very much. The classes I teach are usually very basic, for kids. I too would like to learn more, but don't know anyone here who teaches.

I do spend a lot of my time running my on-line business…but I also dance, go to the gym, play tennis, badminton, cook, eat out, read.
Andrew
I like seeing what other people do outside of writing.
Personally when I'm not writing I usually just sit in a corner of my room curled up in a ball.
But it's nice to know others have actual interests..
That's quite a list of things you love doing. I'm not sure I would be able to make a list like that for myself. I would leave more of a comment here but you've inspired me in this post to do a post of my own about my life when not blogging. Check it out in weeks to come.
I will say though, I like music and driving and spending time with my family. Not in any particular order of course!
Cool list.
What's spare time
Impressive list there for a busy family person and self employed body! I just have to get this image of you scrapbooking while horse riding out of my head!
LOL @ scrapbooking on horseback.
Ah, I wish I had time to do all of these things, but the reality is, I've ridden a horse once in the past 5 years. I adore horses, but no longer own one. The scrapbooking has also taken a back burner, along with cake decorating and sewing, since I don't have space to spread things out in this small duplex. And my piano? 800 miles away at my parent's house.
So, while a lot of these things are things I love, and would do on a regular basis if I had the ability to, the reality is, I don't get to do them often.
Looking forward to your post, Eric! Sounds like we have a few things in common…
How about listening to music while driving across country with the family? That sounds like a winner!
LOL You're too funny. I think maybe you spend your time feeding the neighborhood squirrels and raccoons and tossing seed to the birds. You just don't want to admit that it's really you bringing the critters in…
Dancing and Tennis. Two things I've always wanted to learn!
Ah, eating out. Now I have something new to add to my list of hobbies… haha
Heck,
I'll listen to music all the time in my car. We never do driving like that but just around town or if we have errands to run and if I'm driving alone I'll really crank up the tunes!
My wife and I started to learn ballroom and latin dancing about 2 years ago. Great fun! What's stopping you?
Andrew
It is a very important point. I think you can connect much better with your readers if you add your personality as well. Not only your humor or your beliefs, but who you are in general. I'm not saying that you have to give out your biggest secrets, but to allow your readers to learn who you are as a person. I have a long way to go in this, I'd rather put an informational post together than a personal one. But once you do, you never know what comes out of it. Maybe even business? If you haven't made this post, you would never know that if you contact me I may need a sign language teacher, simply because I would never bother sharing it with you.
Tom,
Funny the things we never think to share. I love how many people came
out and told me they had similar interests. It just deepens that
connection we have with our readers.
Oh, I am far from a teacher. I know the very basics, and I use a
curriculem to teach a very beginner and intermediate class. haha I have
been told I am fluent, but not in the 'you know this well' way.
Apparently, I 'get it' and have good form/expression. Nice to know, but
I sure would like to learn some more so I could actually feel
comfortable signing with the deaf.
