Most WordPress themes come with built-in styles for images. Some include borders, and some don’t. For a while, the them I was using had a lightweight, teal border to match my site. For the most part, I liked it, but there were times when I wanted to leave it off.
Take this image for example. The green border clashes with the flower’s green leaves…
If you want to override your theme’s image border style, use the Advanced Settings tab in your image editor. Scroll down to Border and insert a zero (0) in the space. Update/Save Changes.
If you’d like to have a border and just change the color or width, then insert the width you’d like and change the color.
You can also exchange ‘solid’ for ‘dashed’ if you’d like.

Ta for that! I shall have to check that out and implement it because there arew times when the borders are not needed but I just plod on without thinking about changing from the default.
I assume that not all themes have this option.
I tried to find the options in mine and couldn't.

haha. No, it's actually a WP option. After you insert a photo, click on
it once till the pic and delete icons appear. Click on the pic icon,
then at the top of the screen that opens, click on Advanced Settings.
There you can change border, margin, padding, etc.

I use Snagit's editor to place borders on images when needed. You are right, there are many instances where a border is of no use though. Often I use no border for images that I want to simply blend into the background, making them look as though the actual object was place on the page.
