For months I’ve been looking for a WordPress calendar plugin that would bring provide a good way to manage and showcase upcoming events.
Finally, someone has created a wonderful event calendar for WordPress. This dynamic plugin allows you to create even categories, recurring events, show author information, and customize the widget’s appearance with custom css.
My Favorite Features:
Determine who is allowed to add events. This will be especially good for multi-author blogs. You may have contributors you don’t want to be able to add events, and moderators who should have access.- Setup Categories for Events. How about Mom-Only, Kid Friendly, and Indoor or Outdoor color-coded categories so your readers can easily see which events they are interested in?
- Link Event to Page, Post, or External Site. Wow, what an Idea! If you’ve added a concert to your event calendar you may want to link directly to the concert website…
- Set Begin/End Time, recurring or single, how many days out the calendar shows, show/not show author, etc
- Custom CSS. Make your widget match your theme.
Public Speakers, Authors, Community Sites, and Local Business sites will really benefit from having this plugin.

Really good for announcing upcoming events on or off your blog, as you've mentioned. When not in use, simply deactivate until needed again. I don't know that I would have a lot of use for it just yet, but it does give me a couple of ideas.
