Some friends came to me this week and asked if I’d help with the launch of their site’s new look. I didn’t need to actually code or build anything, they’d already hired developers, but they wanted someone to be there through the actual switchover. So, last night I joined a Skype conference to get updated on all that would be going down, and tonight I’m refreshing the page every few minutes to make sure things are running smoothly. I’ve jumped in to help once or twice, but for the most part, I’m a silent watcher without any real authority or responsibility. My mother would call me a snoopervisor.
For once I’m watching a beautiful transformation and I’m not the one stressing over how it will go. It feels good, and in a way, relaxing.
It’s not like I’m doing nothing… I have been on hand to consult, mediate, do some basic updates to help get ready for the switch, and over the next few days I’ll be helping to teach the contributors how to properly format posts for the new layout. And, I’ll be on hand to answer basic technical questions and make sure the next few weeks run smoothly. But, I’m not ultimately in charge, either on the ownership or developer end of things. I think like this arrangement.
Don’t get me wrong, I love designing and coding. I enjoy the creative process. But, sometimes it’s nice to sit back and just watch…
Know anyone who needs a snoopervisor?

Ha Ha I love it and have definitely been there a few times, except I'm the one usually cleaning up the mess.
To all of Erica's readers, those friends she's referring to are Janice and me from 5 Minutes for Mom.
And Erica is far too humble! She rocks. I am so thrilled to have her helping us as our new technical assistant. She has phenomenal initiative and just takes charge in a GOOD way. LOL
I can't believe I didn't do a single thing or stress for a second during this implementation. I was literally putting my girls to sleep while Erica worked with our developer and designer to oversee the upgrade.
Thank you Erica!
Seems a nice job
enjoy!
It's always nice to change it up every now and again no matter how different that change is. After all, that'd be the point of a change, right?
Good luck with it.
Yes, it is! When you spend all day every day either blogging or designing/coding it's nice to have a moment to sit back and watch someone else do it.
Glad you stopped by, Eric!
Oh it is. A nice, stress-free job. haha
How've you been?
Um, I should maybe mention that they did most everything themselves. I think they had 2 questions and I hopped in once to update a photo that wasn't displaying right. Other than that, I sat back and watched. haha
You found some real winners in Jedd and Mark. Fabulous, on-top-off-it guys!
I know what ya mean! I've been hired on several occasions to come in and fix what someone else has done. In fact, I'm in the middle of two of those projects right now…
Do you design sites as well?
Great! I am running a blogging contest right now, make sure to check it out!
I can imagine. I haven't done any scripting for months. Well, since I've really gotten into blogging so, yeah, months. Maybe something fun I can look forward to going back to just a bit.
