Gettin’ the Bliss On in 2010
The 2010 theme for BlissDom is:
Follow Your Bliss
“Following Your Bliss means dreaming impossible dreams – and then making them possible through creativity, passion and direction.” – BlissDomConference.com
As I’ve mentioned in my recent post, Holding 2009 Up to the Mirror. Liking the Reflection I See…,I believe that knowing where we’ve come in the past year is essential to planning for the coming year. For me, writing down all the things I’d accomplished or good things that happened to me, and watching the list grow was a huge encouragement. Had someone asked me beforehand, how I thought 2009 went for me and my blog, I would have answered “ok, I guess.” I honestly hadn’t realized how good it was till I saw everything adding up.
That feeling of accomplishment was very encouraging. All of a sudden my goals for 2010 don’t look so daunting.
Things I want to do this year that will help me, Follow My Bliss:
Give this site a makeover. This theme has a lot of features I love, and just as many that I dislike. Take the sidebar for example. Only the top half is widgetized. Arg! The width is only 900px instead of the standard 960. It may not seem like much, but 60px can make a huge difference if it’s added to the content area… I’d be able to use larger images! I want to simplify, maybe go white? I also want the option of having thumbnail images on the front page. I’m thinking Custom Theme, all my own, designed by me and hubs and coded by him??? (Honey, are you listening??)
Attend a Conference. I’ve been blogging, in some form or other, for over five years. I have never attended a blogger’s conference. I’ve met very few people who actually understand what I do. Most of my good friends are online. Sad, I know. I’d like to meet some of them! But, mostly, I’d like to hear what they have to say. There are a lot of bloggers out there who have been at this a lot longer than I have. People who’ve started seeing actual profit from their labors. To be able to glean the wisdom of these great-ones in a weekend’s time would be amazing!
Buy a new wardrobe. I know you’re thinking this has nothing to do with blogging, but it does! I aim to make enough ‘extra’ cash to not only makeover my wardrobe, but take a second honeymoon on our fifth wedding anniversary which is in October. Most of this cash will probably come from my design work, but really, the two are linked as my blog is usually the first place clients connect with me.
Continue to fine tune my niche. I’ve spent the last few months of 2009 figuring out who I am as a blogger. I’ve learned a lot, but I still have a ways to go. I want to complete a few courses and do some reading of good books like Beyond Blogging. (affiliate link)
Read More Blogs. This one is hard. I have a lot of friends who blog and I like to keep up with their goings-on, but most of those blogs aren’t in my niche. I need to find and keep track of things that will inspire me, give me ideas, and provide a community. I need to get involved.
Reach Out. In the future, I’d like to feature more guest bloggers. Every so often it’s nice to have a new voice around here!
Contribute More. I love contributing at Blissfully Domestic! I just feel like I don’t do it often enough. I want to work harder in 2010 at being a better, more regular, contributor. Who knows, if I get caught up I may even guest post elsewhere.
Join the Discussion and you could win!
BlissDom is one conference I would love to attend this coming year. Mom In The City is giving away a ticket to the conference and all you have to do is blog about Following Your Bliss.
So, who wants to go with me?
If you’re not going to the conference, I challenge you to write down and blog about your goals anyway. A little accountability could go a long way!!
