It is hard for a clutter-hater like me to confess to the heaps of junk in my closet. I could blame it all on my packrat husband better half, but somehow that doesn’t seem fair. I do my share of stashing and I’m here to admit it.
In my post about the internet technician’s crazy “what’s in your closet” question, I promised to tell all if you’d confess to some of your can’t-part-with technology. And, you all kept your end of the deal, so here I am, list in hand…
Keep in mind, this is only the closet in my master bedroom. We have not even entered the garage (long-term storage) or my husband’s office. Are ya ready?
Belkin N Wireless Router. We thought it had bit the dust, so we bought a new one. Apparently, our service is crappy and the router had less to do with our lack on internet service than we thought. Yes, it has problems, but it’s not totally dead so it’s been enlisted in the tech reserves…
Samsung M500 cell phone. Nothing wrong with it, the HTC Mogul just seemed like more fun.
So, it’s on the back-ups shelf just in case.
Marine Aquarium Screensaver v. 2.0. I think I bought this for my husband’s (then boyfriend) birthday at one point and he installed it on a laptop which crashed shortly thereafter (also in my closet) and it was never re-installed on the next machine. (also since retired) Who knows how many versions have been released since, and whether this one would even be compatible with Vista.
Unreal Tournament 2004. This one I really can blame on my husband. Especially since the newest version is on the bookcase in our room. I mean, seriously, why do we need this old one?
Pinnacle Studio Plus video software. Very expensive – very advanced – I don’t know a thing about it – software. My husband previously did video editing for his company and apparently, this is the system. Looks like a bunch of cables, disks, and booklets shoved in a box…
Instant Immersion Spannish. 11 Disks. Unopened. Yea, that was my grand idea for us learning Spanish together. Brilliant, no?
Hanns G 21″ LCD Monitor. Yes, it works, and yes it gets used sometimes. In fact, it has a twin on my husband’s desk and when he’s in the mood, they’re set-up side by side for the ultimate widescreen or split-screen effect.
2 HP Laptops and 1 eMachines Laptop. Broken. All three of them. I think one is sporting a bad power supply, another a bad motherboard, and perhaps the 3rd a non-functioning CD/DVD drive?? Whatever the problems, they seemed worth keeping and fixing (at the time anyway) so here they are.
nVidia Graphics Card. Another one of those we think this is the problem with our desktop machine, so we’ll replace it and see things. Turns out, the machine still locks up from time to time and the graphics card probably had nothing to do with it.
And, on top of all that we have the boxes/packaging for all our current technology. Plus a dozen or so flash drives, several digital camera media cards, about 4 boxes of junk outdated software in the garage and more stuff at the office.
Shall I list the multitude of items we sold in our most recent yard sale? Please, say no!!! I probably couldn’t remember half of the items anyway.
So, there you have it. My closet is no longer a private place.

Well Erica, I was ready to cut you some slack until I got to the 3 laptops, including an eMachine? LOL. I'll still cut you the slack, but what a hoot.
You know what makes it even worse? None of those machines is over 4 years old!!! The eMachine was mine… my very first laptop, purchased for me by my grandmother when I got married and moved 800 miles from my family… you know, so I could keep in touch. Then my husband's first HP laptop died and he traded me his desktop for my laptop… I'm telling you, that guy can't make a laptop last more than a year. His current Toshiba is experiencing problems now and may soon join the ranks…
Some of those items do hold some sentimental value. My problem is that until recently, I hardly parted ways with anything computer related. In fact, I still have a copy of “F19 Stealth”, a early 80's flight simulator made by a company called Microprose. Since its on 5 1/4″ floppies, you think I may use it again?
It's a relic, just can't let that one go.
