Wow, it seems like all I’ve blogged about the past few days is Facebook. All these crazy changes have people asking “How do I get it back to the way it was??”
For me, the Live Feed is most like the previous version of the Facebook Home page. However, it tends to show a lot more information that I need or use. I really don’t need, or care, to see every time one of my connections adds a friend, or fans a page. Having a few teens in my list of friends ensures I also see a lot of relationship updates and changes to profile information.
While the information below won’t change everything in your live feed, it will go a long way towards cleaning up the feeds for everyone you’re connected with. If you want your feed to be cleaner, share this information with your connections and demand strongly recommend politely ask them to make the changes too!
First, login to Facebook. In the top right of the page, near the search, put your cursor on Settings. When the menu opens, choose Privacy Settings, then click on News Feed and Wall.
On that page, you will see a list of check boxes for things you’d like shared on everyone’s news feed. Politely un-check things like Change Relationship Status, Remove Profile Information, Add a Friend, and any others you don’t feel everyone in your friends list needs to see on their live news feed.
Save Changes.
That’s it! You’ve helped to clear some of the junk out of your friends’ news feeds. Good luck on getting them to do the same!
A visual…

Hi Erica,
I, along with others, have struggled to see why Facebook needed to make these changes. It was better before this.

great tips, thanks. this has be annoying me lately and i haven't taken the time to figure out how to fix it. the face book app on my iphone now has me all confused!
Oh man! I have the Palm Pre and they just recently changed the Mobile version of Facebook (no official App yet) and fortunately, it's much better than the old. I think they're just using Facebook lite for phones nowadays. However, I'm eager for an app for the Pre as there are still things I can't do on the lite version.
Good luck!

Unfortunately, Facebook has changed again since I’ve written this article. Sigh. They change things so often it’s hard to keep up!!
so true. there are a lot of changes and sometimes this is making usage of facebook harder in stead of easier. The tutorial is good after all. Btw have you noticed that on the registration page is written the following notice “It’s free and always will be.”
as you mention in a comment further down the page, the tips you gave above no longer work, as facebook have removed those options. the best way to clean the junk from your fb newsfeed these days is to use the FB Purity browser extension, as it lets you filter out the story types you dont want to see in your newsfeed, its very easy to use, and highly rated by the media, you can check it out here; http://www.fbpurity.com
