For many who have already blogged using a platform like Blogger, the Categories and Tags can be a little confusing.
I like to describe it this way:
A Category is like the drawer of a filing cabinet. The drawer is labeled: Owners Manuals.
Inside the draw are sub-categories labeled: Kitchen Appliances, Outdoor Equipment, Consumer Electronics. These labels are your Sub or Child Categories.
Categories are normally shown in a navigation bar across the top of the page, or somewhere prominent in the sidebar. This list of categories makes it easy for readers to find your content, by pulling up all posts within a general category. Posts can be assigned to more than one category.
The Tags would be what’s on the actual folders withing the sections: Whirlpool Dishwasher, Maytag Refrigerator, and Murray Riding Mower. You may chose to assign more than one tag to each post as well. Ie: Black and Decker Drill, Power Tools, Gifts for Dad, etc
