The New Face of Facebook – News Feed vs. Live Feed

According to CNN’s article, the new Facebook news feed format is the result of many requests and complaints. Personally, I’m hating it. But, I assume you can’t make everyone happy all the time…

So, we now have two options for the feed that shows on our home page:

News Feed:
This is the customized (by FB) feed showing updates from your friends, based on your Facebook usage. Somehow, it knows who you “like” and comment on and it makes sure you see their updates. So, when you wake up in the morning, you are quickly caught up on what FB feels you’d find important…

Live Feed:
This is the actual live feed where you’ll see everything from status updates to videos posted by friends. It also shows relationship updates, Networked Blogs, updates from pages you’re a fan of, group updates, friend a is now a friend of some person you never heard of, etc…

To me, neither is ideal. The Live Feed shows too much, and the News Feed is not accurate enough for my taste.

For those who only wish to see status updates when they log in:

Click on “More” in the left sidebar. Drag Status Updates to the top of the list and it will become the default view for your feed. Keep in mind this will only show status updates: no links, video, fan page info, etc. However, it might be a nice way to just catch-up on what all your friends have been up to!

Not quite sure if I like this new Facebook. To be honest, I have spent the last few days getting to know Windows 7.
Wishing you a picture perfect day!

Wow, I’ve been looking for an explanation of changes. Thank you! I was not getting the changes! I don’t care for it, but all change is hard. Now that I understand what the changes are, maybe I can somehow make it work for me. YUCK!

I hope you do find a way to make it work. I’m not a huge fan, but I’m getting used to it… slowly.

I'm still struggling with the old facebook so I'm not even sure how the new things can help me or how to use them to the best abilities.

    Talen,

For me, the News Feed is useless. It only shows one or two updates per day, and they are things Facebook has picked for me. The Live Feed would be wonderful if people would change their settings so we're not seeing updates every time they add a friend, change relationship status, or fan a page.

And, just when we get used to this, Facebook will change again. :-)

    Good luck!

  13. [...] My favorites of the free applications are RSS Feed, which is better than any of the RSS applications I’ve found on Facebook, and Twitter. However, if you use YouTube a lot, I’d also highly recommend that one!! These applications bring in the posts, tweets, video, etc and create separate tabs for each one, as well as posting the updates to your wall, meaning all your fans see the updates in their live news feeds!
