Flip Ultra Camcorder Review

Share

I must start this review with a big WOW!!!

I am already loving the Flip Ultra! (Many thanks to NewBaby.com and @VloggingMoms for the contest!) I’d love to Vlog my review, but it would be rather difficult to show you what I’m doing with the camera while I’m using it to record. haha

The Pros:

Easy to use. I can’t say enough about how simple this camera is to use. It doesn’t come with a book, because it doesn’t need one! They do give you a little 3-fold brochure that tells what each button is for and how to install batteries, but I didn’t even need it. That’s how user friendly this camera is!

Compact size. This camera is smaller than my Samsung Instinct cell phone/pda, and only about twice as thick. It’s pocket-sized which makes it great for slipping it into your purse or diaper bag so it’s handy to capture memories!

Non-Slip Coating. Mine has a black cover and it’s a soft, non-slip plastic. This is great cause I don’t feel like I’m going to drop it. It’s very easy to hold!

Quality Imaging. For a camera this size and price, the videos are a very nice quality!

Storage Space. This camera’s built-in memory holds 1GB or 60 minutes of video. That sure beats the 30 minutes my mom’s fancy video camera holds! And, it’s soooo much more than my point and shoot digital camera’s video will hold!

Software. Once installed, the software was very simple to use. Even someone without any experience in digital media can create, share, and upload movies, combine clips and add music! It’s GREAT!

The Con: (yes, that’s singular!)

Software. Yes, I know I listed the software in The Pros, but I felt I needed to mention it here as well. I had a lot of problems getting the software installed. You’re supposed to plug the camera into the USB port on your computer and everything is automatic. But, mine stopped at 1% complete and the camera locked up. I noticed other users were having the same problem. I finally gave up and went to the website. There I downloaded the newest version of the software. I was so excited, this was going to work. Wrong! When I plugged in the camera both the computer and the camera went wild with confusion. Apparently, the software on my computer was a newer version than what was on my camera and this was a problem. I got about 10 pop-up boxes screaming at me for action. Fortunately I was able to weed through them and the camera updated to the new version. Problem solved.

Summery:

I would highly recommend the Flip Ultra to anyone wishing to Vlog or just create home videos to share online or through email. It’s very affordable and it doesn’t take a geek to run it!

Here’s a video I made with my new camera!
