This particular model has been upgraded and revamped by Epson at least twice, if not three times since I bought my R220, but mine’s still running! I operate a short run print service and this is the only printer I use. Believe me when I say, it get a LOT of use.
Things I love about the R220:
Speed. I am speed. Oh wait, that’s Lightening McQueen. Back to Epson. Speed. This thing is fast. I’ve always been impressed with Epson’s speed for such high quality. This model did not disappoint. I can have a borderless 8.5 x 11″ photo in under a minute.
Quality. I’m one of those cheapos who pays a little extra to get all our family portraits on CD so I can print as many as I’d like, at home. People never know the difference. This Epson produces professional quality prints.
Ink Prices. I’ve used so many other brands and I’ve found Epson to be the cheapest when it comes to ink. Because the R220 has 6 individual cartridges, I only replace the color I’m out of, instead of a multi-cartridge. I’ve also found this printer runs perfectly on ink from InkGrabber.com which saves me a boatload of money!
Borderless Printing. My largest print customer is a coffee shop. I print labels for every bag of coffee they sell. In order to print these high quality labels I MUST have borderless printing. This is not an option for me. The R220 works flawlessly. I’m in love.
Things that could be better:
Noise. This printer is rather noisy, but I don’t remember it always being that way, so maybe it’s just complaining. I have had it about 3 years now…
Paper Feed. Sometimes this model doesn’t like thick paper. One day it works great, the next day it doesn’t want to accept super-duty card stock. Go figure.
I really can’t think of anything major to complain about!
I’d most definitely recommend an Epson to anyone wishing to print photos or high quality graphic materials. Epsons products are easy to use and quick to set up.
And, Epson, if you’re reading this, I want your new Artisan 800 for Christmas!
