So many people ask me, what is the difference between a free, hosted blog on wordpress.com and a self hosted wordpress.org site. I always answer that hosting the wordpress software on your own hosting gives you more control, allows you to use themes and plugins not included in the wordpress directory, and also gives you the ability to modify your themes.
